Billboard Artists
Art the Vote features the work of eight contemporary artists addressing contemporary issues facing our state, nation and planet, using billboards across the roads and interstates of Missouri as their canvas. The Art the Vote committee selected seven of the eight artists. The eighth artist will be chosen in an online competition, the results of which will be announced August 1, 2008.
The artists participating in Art the Vote were sought because of their talent and international and national reputations. Each has created work which reflects a strong interest in the issues our society faces today. All the artists were enthusiastic about participating in a public art project, where their art would be used in a traditional advertising medium to encourage voter registration and mobilization. Art the Vote is an initiative of the Missouri Billboard Project, a political organization registered with the I.R.S. and organized to encourage likely and potential voters to vote by supporting creation of art that draws attention to public policy issues.
