BIO / Artists Statement

I am Archie Scott Gobber, a native Missourian, living in Kansas City with my wife and daughter. I graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute and hold a position as Guest Lecturer in the Painting Department. My work has been shown in Kansas City and nationally in St. Louis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles and Dallas. It is in many private, corporate and museums collections.

My desire to create a billboard design lies in what I feel is most important about the upcoming presidential election, VOTE. The nostalgically painted "vote" is then countered by a current day fuel sign that has been altered by a street artist to emphatically read "your future depends on it!" Other areas of the sign have been edited to question issues of leadership, selfishness, and service. I feel the design is both graphically and metaphorically strong, easily read in a billboard format.

Art the Vote is an initiative of the Missouri Billboard Project, a political organization registered with the I.R.S. and organized to encourage likely and potential voters to vote by supporting creation of art that draws attention to public policy issues.
